WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2021, Rochelle Smothers is the founder and director of Illuminating the Youth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and fostering community development. A native of the Lower 9th Ward, Rochelle's passion for education and social justice stems from her experiences growing up in New Orleans. With a background in education and criminal justice, Rochelle has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for young people to thrive. Through Illuminating the Youth, she aims to illuminate pathways to success, promote community resilience, and advocate for a brighter future for all.
